The Truth Is

The truth is I've been in a funk for a number of years.  Why the funk you ask...well I guess I'm trying to find myself.  The kids are grown and out of the nest, my Mom was sick for several years then passed away, I was sick for several years and almost died, my Dad had a stroke last year and still has issues from it, my art has been on hold--no inspiration.  I know, it sounds like depression.  I know there are so many people with more difficult problems or maybe many people feel the same way I do and don't know what to do about it.  Well I've decided to take action, freshen things up.

Phase One: (Banner Redesign/Name Change) My daughter added my new shop name to a redesigned banner, you'll notice it on my Etsy shop page and my Blog...I love it, just what I needed to freshen things up!!!

Phase Two: (Creative Spark)  I went to an Art Retreat hosted by Christy Tomlinson (future post) in April, I'm getting my creative spark back.

Phase Three:  (Inspiring Space) I looked around my art studio and asked myself "is this space inspiring me"?  "No it's not"!!!  I took everything off the walls and shelves and brought in color and the things I love, freshened things up. I'll share pictures soon.

Phase Four:  (Declutter/Decorate)  I've looked around my house and although I love my decorated home I decided I needed to freshen things up here too.  I'm going room to room decluttering (oh that actually feels good) and redecorating the space.  I'm trying to use what I have of course but a few new pieces will work their way in.  OK I made this sound like I've been through the whole house already but I'm still working on one room, the living room.  Remember I'm in a funk so I tell myself to work on the living room but instead I end up folding laundry or checking sites on the computer.  After a few weeks though I can say the coat closet is cleaned out, the dresser drawers are cleaned out (yes a vintage dresser, holds wrapping paper, tax files, banking info and a lot of miscellaneous, actually some miscellaneous since I cleaned it out), half the room is dusted (not lambs wool dusted, pledge dusted).

Here's a before and after picture of the room.  Yes the furniture is different, the living room felt so crowded with a couch and 2 chairs along with all the family antiques so I sold the couch and gave the chairs away and purchased 2 leather love seats (better for my allergies too).

With just the changes in the living room I feel a lot better, can you tell I love red!!!  I still have those blue cupboards to sort out but I'm almost done with one room.  Yay!!!

And while all these changes feel great what I really need to work on is me.

Phase Five:  (Creating Me)  Me!  As I've mentioned in previous posts I stay up late at night then my next day starts late, I never feel like I get much done (although I do, it's just at night).  I'm up early 2 days a week when I watch my granddaughter but after I've watched her for 2 days I'm beat, one reason is she's four and I'm olderrrr  :) but the other reason again is I stay up too late (on days I have her I stay up until 1:00 am then get up at 6:00 am).

I was sick for a couple of years, in and out of the ER and Hospital many times with severe stomach spasms and breathing issues and for some reason it stumped the doctors, turns out my Gallbladder wasn't functioning.  Took 2 years to figure that out!  During one of my gallbladder attacks I had a bad breathing issue and was intubated  and rushed to the hospital, turns out it was a severe asthma attack.  Thankfully I'm still here but the steroids the doctors gave me for the breathing issues were hard on my body.  I gained weight and I couldn't sleep while on Prednisone.  I think this is when my whole system changed and instead of staying up until midnight (I've always been a night owl but within reason) it was 3:00, 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning.  I've been trying to go to bed earlier but my body resists, my mind doesn't turn off.  But I'm happy to say there's no more 5:00 am, no more 4:00 am but 3:00 am seems to be a hard one for me to conquer.  I know with more sleep I'll feel better, more energized so this is a goal I'll be working on.  My other goal is weight loss, I still need to decide how I want to tackle that goal.

Each week I'll try and share my journey of becoming a happier, energized, creative woman!  ♥

Dear Diary, Today is February 28, 2014

Dear Diary, My face hurts, darn sinus infection!  My body hurts, darn fibromyalgia!  I think the weather is changing, darn it...more snow!

OK, these rants aren't making me feel any better so I'm going to cheer myself up by puttering around the house.  You know I love tweaking this and that around my house, decorating and art are two of my loves....well of course my family is my number one love.

Well the puttering is done and look at the time, I wonder if I'm the only one who spent the day puttering around in their pj's (doesn't happen very often I'm happy to say).  Heeheehee, glad the mailman didn't ring the doorbell!

OK dressed, a quick bite of lunch, nothing fantastic since it's after 3:30, a yogurt will do.  Sent a message to daughter, they're free for dinner, looking forward to seeing her and the son-in-law.

We don't need to watch the weather channel, my aching body is the best weather meter around.  Must be quite a storm front coming through, I can hardly walk my leg hurts so bad. Back from dinner and the sleet starts, oh joy, another winter storm.  There's been a lot of snow this winter but I have to admit it's fun to watch the granddaughter playing in it and building a super duper snowman!  ♥

Dear Diary, Today is February 19, 2014

Dear Diary, I slept in this morning, woke up around 10:00am.  I'm never going to feel better unless I start taking care of myself, right?  I know that's where my New Year's Resolution is suppose to come in, more sleep, but I have such a hard time going to bed before midnight, 1:00am, 2:00am, 3:00am...need to work on that!

Working on laundry and art today, fun day planned, the art part anyway!  I've been working on background canvases, I think it's time to finish one up.

I'm trying to decide if I want to add a vintage image to it, a house or try drawing a She Art Girl.  Oh the decisions I have to make....hahaha.

The husband had a late meeting so he stopped and picked up egg rolls for our supper. They happen to be the best egg rolls in town so eating 4 of them along with fruit turns out to be a great dinner plus I didn't have to cook!  It's raining, we're suppose to have blizzard conditions tomorrow...crazy weather! ♥

Dear Diary, Today is February 14, 2014

Dear Diary, today has been a very busy day, I'm beat!  I got up at 6:00 am, oh I know that's early for this night owl but I heard something beating against the window.  Grrreeeaaattttttttttt it's sleet and snow again, the driveway had just melted off yesterday in time for my Bunco luncheon (I'm thinking I don't want to shovel)!  Tables, chairs, tableclothes and heart doilies were set out last night thank goodness. Well I quickly set everything up in the kitchen....crockpot with meatballs & marinara sauce, crockpot with cherry cobbler, plates, napkins, cups, etc.....OK looks good.  Run upstairs to make the bed, get dressed, check for messages from the Ladies (who really wants to go out in the snow?).   Answered phone, one cancellation, set out snacks, look at text message, another cancellation.  Looked outside, snow is deep in the driveway so no choice but to go out and shovel it, darn it!  Head outside at 10:10 am, start shoveling.....mad because I have to do this.  I think that drives me up and down the driveway rather quickly (still thinking it would be easier if my husband was home using his snow blower to clean it out and also thinking I wish I knew how to use it)!  Ouch my back hurts, stop, stretch, shovel more, and more, and more, almost fall down, shovel more.  Swept the steps, OK where's the salt.  Finally find it, throwing it all over the place telling myself this will keep everyone from falling down.  (didn't think about the fact all of it will be tracked into my house when the Ladies get here!).  Back in the house at 10:40 am, pretty good I think since I haven't shoveled since the kids were little and I needed to get out of the house for a few minutes!  Upstairs to clean up, sweating....wish I was wearing a Fitbit to show my activity level and steps!  Back down stairs (thinking who buys a house with so many steps)?  Mix up the punch and the first 2 Ladies arrive......still sweating!

I have to admit we had a great time, good food, good company, what a good day!!!  The last of the Ladies leave around 4:00 pm, I look around, what a disaster!  Foot tracks and salt all across the floor.  I start cleaning up, clearing dishes, papers, food, etc then the husband is home.  I sit down for a minute, fall asleep and wake up to a clean floor, rug and loaded dishwasher.

Happy Valentine's Day Dear Husband!!!  ♥♥♥

Dear Diary, Today is February 13, 2014

Dear Diary, I have not been very faithful to you, it's been awhile since I've written anything down.

Let's start with the beginning of the New Year...it's 2014.  My New Year's resolutions are to DECLUTTER and ORGANIZE MY HOUSE, work on my ART and get MORE SLEEP.

Well I've made some progress on decluttering the house.  I was able to take a number of boxes to Goodwill before the end of the year and that was just the beginning.  I plan on going room to room cleaning out closets and drawers, getting rid of stuff we're not using or moving things around (you know me, I love to decorate).  I'm happy to recycle my items, I know there's someone out there that can use these things.  I've also been busy listing some of my vintage items on eBay, check out my site if you're interested in seeing what I've collected over the years, I'll be adding more items every few weeks.

I'll write again soon Diary, I need to get some rest, still fighting this darn sinus infection!  ♥

In The Studio

I'm pushing myself to try new things.  New foods, new hair style, updating my clothes and new art techniques.  Well the hair style didn't last, I was growing out my bangs but it didn't feel like me so....chop, chop, chop.  But the new art techniques have lasted, in fact I'm watching YouTube videos and trying new products all the time.  I decided to try my hand at larger canvases and here's one of my creations "Moments of Reflection".  The image of the girl was black and white, I added ink to her hair (I love how the hair came out) and dress, reminds me of the b/w photos my Grandma use to add color to.  Enjoy! ♥

Playing With Photoshop

I'm not an expert when it comes to Photoshop.  I can crop images, touch them up a bit (although my daughter laughs at my technique), add contrast, lighten or darken a photo, remove color and that's about it.  I was lucky to stumble across a blog last year that recommended a photo editing package called RadLab.  OMG I love it! I've taken the above photo and played with a few of the filters, there are so many options available. Yes that's me "the tourist" outside the Roman Colosseum in Italy.  My husband and I were there in June celebrating our 35th anniversary...what a wonderful trip!

Look how the feel of the picture changes with each filter.  I love this last one, it looks rather vintage doesn't it!  Check out their site (they offer a 14 day free trial) and have some fun.  ♥
