Winter is here, we've had our first blizzard. Schools and offices closed but luckily the power stayed on. So while the snow was falling I was busy in my studio, (I know it's been a while). Check out this wintery wonder......

Cabinet Cards

Look what I found on a recent antiquing trip, the babies are so cute........hmmmmm what can I do with these?????

Mermaids

Looking at the vintage brooches in my previous post I've noticed a number of star fish, sea horses and fish pins......looks like I need to start a new mermaid compact. Here's a sample of my previous pieces.

Try Something New

Boy am I out of my comfort zone....I've been working with acrylic paint (at least right now anyway), very different then layering paper. But guess what, I love blending colors and using tools to scratch, layer and change the texture of the paint. And gold, love adding gold to the paint, adds such a richness to it........but that's nothing new, I've been adding a gold border to my ATC cards for years. I was very pleased with the way these two pieces came out using acrylics, ephemera and printed images, they're available in my shop if you're interested. :)

Any Regrets?

Do you ever regret selling one of your favorite art pieces? Don't get me wrong, I'm always very happy when I sell my art but sometimes I look back at photos and think.....ooooh I really love that one! Here's a favorite of mine......I'm very happy it found a good home. (note the vintage brooch in the corner).

Hello and welcome back! I didn't follow through with my promise of posting more often did I? The problem is I don't like to write, so I've decided to change this blog into something I do like to do.....decorating, antiquing and using my vintage finds in my art.

I'll show pictures of pieces I've found while antiquing and how I change or use them. I'll also post photos of pieces I've inherited and how I mix them into my home. My newest art pieces will be shown with the vintage item(s) I've used in their creation, so sit back and enjoy.

Take a look at these beauties. I love to wear vintage jewelry so some of the pieces I find I wear on a blouse, jacket or attach to a pillow and others are just right for that special art project (note the vintage Christmas pin in the previous post).

I used the site Picnik to add the frame around my photo. How fun, be sure to check it out!

The snow is falling...

We're having snow flurries today, the first we've seen.....yes, winter has finally arrived. When the kids were young they had such wonder in their eyes as they watched the snow falling from the sky. I was happy and content, we were safe and warm in our snug little house. And when Dad got home, oh boy, they could hardly wait to go sledding and build a snowman. Here's a little, cozy cottage to bring back those warm, winter memories........

As the Weather Changes...

It's beautiful out today, sunshine and blue skies. The leaves are changing quickly to red, yellow and orange, a beautiful, artistic palette. And while today is beautiful several days ago we had such strong winds it's surprising the trees still have leaves! With the wind and rain I finally realized winter is fast approaching.

But I want to hold onto summer, I wander past my china cabinet full of flamingos, reminding me of summer days, the beach and of course that vintage style I love. Here's a few more vintage summer memories....

Powder your nose...but not with these!

Just finished..."Dance the Night Away"

Finally finished this sparkly piece and added it to my shop, I love the opulent feel to it. I try to incorporate vintage jewelry in my art, which means I must go antiquing to find these wonderful pieces, oh darn it...shopping (hahaha, one of my favorite things to do!).

While I love making ATC's, altered tins, and shadow boxes, altered compacts are my favorite. Once I finish a piece I have a hard time letting it go....well most have landed in my shop except for my favorite.....Little Red Riding Hood.
